Drama in the Air (1904, dir. Gaston Velle) (via)
“Who are nobler than the martyrs of science?” cried the lunatic. “They are canonized by posterity!”
(May this terrible narrative, though instructing those who read it, not discourage the explorers of the air.)
-Jules Verne, Drama in the Air (1851)
Jules Verne adaptations were kindof like the bang-outs of early cinema, but I’ve always been so surprised at how Georges Melies, Valle, and Karl Zeman (albeit a little later on) can be so on point in such big big ways regarding their interpretations, especially considering how the art form was entirely experimental at the time. Sorrys for the nerd attack but damn. These guys were great.
